When should you subtitle, dub or re-record a video?

Published September 15, 2025 · AETV Media Corp

Translating content is not the same as localizing it. The wrong choice makes a premium film feel like a travel announcement.

Subtitles

Best when the original performance matters—an executive’s face, a chef’s hands, a founder’s pause. Subtitles keep the voice and add access. They also fail when the cut is too fast for reading or when the audience expects to hear their own language in a luxury category.

Dubbing

Useful for longer explainers, training and some commercials. Casting the voice is as important as translating the words. A mismatched register can make a serious firm sound like a cartoon.

Re-recording

Sometimes the only honest version is a new performance: different talent, different examples, different legal claims. That is a second creative job, not a checkbox.

AETV Media coordinates captions, subtitles, dubbing, voiceover and market versioning. We will tell you when a campaign needs more than a subtitle file.
